DR. BRANDEIS MARSHALL
My research interests lie in the areas of information retrieval, data analytics, social networks and computing education. We code to build software that intends to help us improve every aspect of our lives, e.g., health, finances, purchases, etc. We depend on reliable data to produce relevant content and make decisions. I'm interested in discovering effective ways of handling text-based data and information. Other interests include data ethics and broadening diversity, equity and inclusion in science.

The NSF HBCU-UP Targeted Infusion Project titled "Data Science eXtension (DSX): Incorporating Data Science Fundamentals in the Curriculum at Spelman and Morehouse Colleges” will train faculty on data science principles, develop and implement data science curriculum at the undergraduate level and to broaden awareness of data science to underrepresented minorities at the bachelor’s level. Data science is emerging as a distinct interdisciplinary area of study, including but not limited to applied statistics, biology, business analytics, business intelligence, chemistry, computer science, data analytics, data mining and information management.
